Recording Details

  • If you can, please place your completed audio in this folder: Promo Audio Submitted by the deadline: 1/26/2026
  • The duration must be under 45 seconds.
  • If you are unable to access the folder, you can email your audio file to program@kboo.org
  • Accepted file types: WAV, FLAC, or MP3
  • Please be sure to watch your levels, so your voice doesn't clip. We may not be able to use your recording if the audio quality is poor.
  • If you are capable of adding a music bed, we deeply appreciate it! If not, no worries. We can seek support from an editing volunteer after you submit your voicing clip.

Where and how to record your promo:

If you have taken Introduction to Studio Production, you may check out a production studio (by email volunteer@kboo.org) and record/mix your promo at the station in a production studio! This is recommended for best sound quality.

You may also produce the spot remotely if you wish! If you don't have any equipment, a smartphone with a basic recording app is sufficient, so long as you're mindful with your recording set up.

Tips for recording at home: Record in a dense space, surrounding yourself with blankets and pillows can help absorb reverb and white noise. Closets usually work great for this! You can also place a sock over your phone speaker to act as a pop filter. If your voice sounds distorted, try moving a little bit further from the recording device and try to project your voice more. If you have loud appliances or devices that are producing a hum nearby, you may want to unplug them while you record.
